Raphinha’s injury, sustained during a friendly between Brazil and France, sparked a wave of outrage in the Catalan capital, and now the financial details of this setback have come to light.

Details: According to FIFA’s Club Protection Programme, Barcelona is entitled to financial compensation, as the Brazilian is expected to be sidelined for about five weeks. This surpasses the mandatory threshold of 28 calendar days, after which compensation is triggered for injuries suffered by players on national duty.

However, the amount the Blaugrana will receive is just a drop in the ocean compared to their sporting losses. FIFA pays a maximum of €20,548 for each day the player is sidelined beyond the 28-day minimum. So, if Raphinha misses exactly 35 days, Barcelona can expect to receive only €143,836. For comparison, Gavi’s severe injury in 2023 earned the club millions, but in Raphinha’s case, the compensation is merely symbolic.

It’s worth noting that Raphinha was injured during Brazil’s friendly against France. The match ended in a 2-1 defeat for the Seleção.

Reminder: Julián Álvarez is open to a move to Barcelona, with the Catalans considering Bastoni as an alternative.
