Columbus Crew Sign Dániel Gazdag in $4.5M Move From Philadelphia Union

Columbus Crew have completed the signing of Hungarian international Dániel Gazdag from the Philadelphia Union in a move worth up to $4.5 million, according to MLSsoccer.com. The 29-year-old joins as a Designated Player through the 2025 season, with an option for 2026.
Gazdag, Philadelphia’s all-time leading scorer with 72 goals in 161 appearances, fills a crucial attacking void for the Crew following Cucho Hernández’s offseason departure. “It was a no-brainer once we learned of his availability,” said Crew general manager Issa Tall. “We’re talking about someone with nearly 100 goals in all competitions – he’s a natural Crew player.”
The versatile midfielder joins a high-flying Columbus attack led by Diego Rossi and Jacen Russell-Rowe. “I want to be involved a lot in ball possession and, of course, contribute with goals and assists,” Gazdag said during his unveiling.
This move also underlines Columbus’ championship ambitions. The reigning Leagues Cup and 2023 MLS Cup winners aim to continue building under head coach Wilfried Nancy. “They’ve won a lot since I’ve been in the league. I’m proud to be part of this team,” Gazdag added.
With 2 goals and 2 assists in six games for Philly this season, Gazdag is already in form and could debut this Sunday against St. Louis CITY SC. “I know I’ll be available,” he confirmed.
