Colombian striker Juan Otero has expressed his desire to remain with Real Sporting de Gijón for the upcoming season. Speaking at a press conference at the club’s training ground in Mareo, Otero opened up about his emotional reaction during the match in Málaga and addressed the frustrations shared by the fans.
As reported by La Voz de Asturias, Otero said, “I cried out of frustration. We were winning, and they turned it around at the end. I completely understand the fans’ anger—I’d be upset too.” With 12 goals this season, the 29-year-old has been a standout despite not playing as a traditional number 9.
Otero emphasized that he is under contract and feels settled in Gijón. “I’m calm, focused on finishing strong, and ready to play wherever the coach needs me,” he said, acknowledging the challenges of a demanding Segunda División season.
He also praised the Orlegi ownership group for their treatment and reiterated his loyalty to the club. Looking ahead, Otero was clear: “Next year we need to be more consistent and avoid silly mistakes. In this league, you pay dearly for them.”
