Colombian FA Backs Néstor Lorenzo Amid Exit Rumors Colombian FA Backs Néstor Lorenzo Amid Exit Rumors

The Colombian Football Federation (FCF) has denied reports suggesting head coach Néstor Lorenzo was set to leave his role, issuing a public statement reaffirming its confidence in the Argentine manager. The speculation emerged after a poor run of results in World Cup qualifying, but the FCF clarified that Lorenzo remains fully supported by the board.

According to the statement, a scheduled meeting between Lorenzo and FCF officials—set to take place during Colombia's U-17 match against Argentina this Saturday in Cartagena—will focus on technical matters rather than any coaching change. The federation emphasized the manager maintains “clear and constant” communication with FCF president Ramón Jesurun.

Lorenzo, who took charge in 2022 and led Colombia to a Copa América final in 2024, has overseen a recent dip in form. His team sits sixth in the South American qualifiers, having won just once in the last six matches. The recent international window saw a 2-1 loss to Brazil and a 2-2 home draw with Paraguay.

Despite growing concern, the FCF made it clear that “officials, coaching staff, and players remain united in their goal to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.” Lorenzo will be under pressure in the June fixtures, where Colombia hosts Peru and travels to face Argentina.
