Coaching upheaval in South Africa! Mamelodi Sundowns set to change manager after African failure?
The management of South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns have decided to suspend head coach Miguel Cardoso after disappointing results in the CAF Champions League and entrust the team to a proven coaching duo.
Details: According to RushSportsNews sources, at an emergency board meeting on Monday, the club's bosses concluded that the Portuguese coach had failed to deliver on his key objectives on the continental stage. As a result, Steve Komphela and Manqoba Mngqithi were temporarily tasked with taking charge of the team.
On Tuesday, the club's management reported the outcome of the meeting to the club's owner and CAF president Dr Patrice Motsepe, who was in England at the time after attending the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London. However, the influential official was advised to hold off on dismissing Cardoso for the time being and keep him in the job, leading to ongoing tense consultations within the South African camp.
It is worth noting that Steve Komphela and Manqoba Mngqithi already have extensive experience working together at the helm of Mamelodi Sundowns, having guided the team to multiple South African league titles.
Reminder: One goal was enough! Mamelodi Sundowns survive tense battle and march into Carling Knockout quarter-finals
