Closer to a thousand. Cristiano Ronaldo scores against Germany

Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in Germany with the Portugal squad for the UEFA Nations League semifinal—and made his presence count for the team.

Details: In the 68th minute, Germany faltered at the back, and the Portuguese pounced. Nuno Mendes rolled a perfect pass to Cristiano Ronaldo, who calmly slotted the ball into an empty net, putting Portugal ahead.

This was the 937th goal of the legendary forward’s career. That means he’s now just 63 goals away from reaching the incredible milestone of a thousand career goals.

Incidentally, it was Germany who took the lead early in the second half. Florian Wirtz latched onto a lofted cross from Kimmich and found the net. However, the Portuguese players had plenty of questions regarding a possible offside on the play.

Reminder: The match kicked off after a ten-minute delay due to severe weather—a hailstorm hit just before kickoff, forcing officials to postpone the start of the game.
