Chilean Midfielder Mehssatou Leaves Belgium, Eyes Move to England, Portugal or the Netherlands

Nayel Mehssatou has officially announced his departure from Belgian side KV Kortrijk after three seasons. As reported by AS Chile, the 23-year-old Chilean midfielder, who served as team captain and played a key role in the league’s final phase, is now set to begin a new chapter in his career.
“This club has played a big part in my journey… A new chapter awaits,” Mehssatou wrote on Instagram. Despite scoring four goals and providing two assists, he was unable to prevent Kortrijk’s relegation to the Belgian second division.
The Chilean international’s performances have caught the attention of clubs across Europe. According to AS, Mehssatou has received interest from teams in Portugal and the Netherlands, and Belgian media suggest he could also be on his way to the English Championship.
With his contract expiring in June, Mehssatou recently changed agents to better navigate this crucial moment in his career. A move to a more competitive league could also help him return to the Chilean national team, where he has not featured since September 2023 under coach Ricardo Gareca.
A new club and fresh opportunity may be just what Mehssatou needs to reignite his international aspirations
