Chelsea's center-back Thiago Silva is the oldest player to start in an EFL Cup semi-final.
As reported by Opta, the Brazilian is the oldest footballer to start an EFL Cup semi-final match since Ryan Giggs. Back then, the Manchester United player performed against Sunderland at the age of 40 years and 39 days. This happened 10 years and two days ago.
To recall, on August 28, 2020, Silva joined Chelsea, signing a contract with the club until the end of the 2020/21 season with the option to extend for another year. On September 23, 2020, he made his debut for the club in a third-round League Cup match against Barnsley.
On February 10, 2023, Silva once again extended his contract, prolonging his stay with the team until the end of the 2023/24 season.
