Chelsea's captain, Reece James, and the club's medical staff have decided that the player needs surgery, as reported by the Daily Mail.

It is mentioned that the footballer had hoped to avoid surgical intervention, but after medical examinations, the decision to proceed with surgery was made. Reece James is expected to fly to France in the near future. Consequently, the recovery from the injury may take three to four months. There is a significant likelihood that Reece James may not play for the rest of this season.

It is worth recalling that Chelsea's captain suffered a knee ligament injury during the 16th round match of the Premier League against Everton.

Born in Redbridge, London, Reece James has been part of Chelsea's football academy since the age of six. In March 2017, he signed his first professional contract. In the 2017/18 season, he captained Chelsea's under-18 team, which won the Youth Cup of England and was recognized as the academy's Player of the Season.

In the summer of 2019, Reece James returned to Chelsea from a loan spell. Under the circumstances of a transfer ban, the new Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, placed his trust in young talents, including James. He became a regular part of the "Blues" first team and played 37 matches in his debut season. In the 2020/21 season, he became a UEFA Champions League winner with Chelsea.
