The Women's Champions League match between Chelsea and Barcelona was abruptly halted on Thursday evening due to a power outage at the stadium.
Details: With temperatures hovering near zero in West London, all stadium communication systems went down, including VAR and the BBC and Disney+ broadcasts. Viewers on BBC 2 and iPlayer were met with a blank screen and the message: "We are sorry for the break in this programme and are trying to correct the fault."
The teams were forced to wait until the television broadcast could resume.
Former Chelsea player Fran Kirby, speaking live on Radio 5Live, noted how strange the situation was:
"As a player, it's a bit odd to see a match stopped because the cameras aren't working. Of course, we want people to enjoy the match at home, but ultimately, the players are on the pitch and the game needs to go on."
The BBC has already apologized to viewers for the technical problems.
Within a few minutes, the broadcast was restored and the match resumed.
