London’s Chelsea has decided to abandon their pursuit of Liverpool’s central defender Ibrahima Konaté, who, as previously reported, is leaving the Merseyside club this summer as a free agent.

Details: According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea’s management held internal discussions and thoroughly assessed the possibility of signing the 27-year-old French centre-back Ibrahima Konaté. However, in the end, the Blues’ executives have completely ruled out making an official offer to the player.

The main reason for this decision was Konaté’s excessively high wage demands — requirements that the London club considered unaffordable and in violation of the current strict wage structure at Stamford Bridge.

Despite Chelsea’s withdrawal, Konaté is currently attracting massive interest from European football’s biggest heavyweights. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and PSG are all vying to snap up the top defender on a free transfer. The race to sign the Frenchman promises to be one of the main storylines of this transfer window.

It’s worth noting that this season, the French defender played 51 matches for the "Merseysiders," scoring 2 goals. Transfermarkt currently values the player at €50 million.

Reminder: It has been revealed where Arne Slot could continue his career.
