Chelsea head coach explains why Mudryk is not in the squad for the match against Newcastle
Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino explained why winger Myhailo Mudryk is not in the starting lineup for the match against Newcastle, as reported by Pys.
According to the Argentine coach, the Ukrainian player has participated in four consecutive matches, and now he needs some rest. It's worth noting that Chelsea is playing against Newcastle in the quarterfinals of the Football League Cup. In the previous round, the "Blues" defeated Blackburn 2-0, with goals scored by Badiašil and Sterling.
Recall that in January 2023, Shakhtar Donetsk was in negotiations with London-based Arsenal for the transfer of Mudryk. The clubs were close to reaching an agreement, but another London club, Chelsea, made a better offer to Shakhtar. On January 15, the player signed a contract with Chelsea until 2031, wearing the number 15 jersey.
Chelsea paid €70 million + €30 million in bonuses for this transfer, making it the most expensive transfer from the Ukrainian Premier League and the priciest winter transfer in the English Premier League. On January 21, 2023, Mudryk made his debut for Chelsea in a Premier League match against Liverpool at Anfield, coming on as a substitute in the 55th minute for Lewis Hall.
In October 2023, Mudryk scored his debut goal for Chelsea in a match against Fulham.
