Everton's imposition of a ten-point penalty for breaches of the Financial Fair Play rules has set a significant precedent. The Toffees are contesting the outcome and plan to file an appeal.

Former financial consultant of Manchester City, Stefan Borsen, stated that the English champions, along with Chelsea, are at risk of being ousted from the Premier League. City faces allegations of 115 presumed violations of the Premier League's financial regulations, while Chelsea might undergo scrutiny concerning alleged payments linked to former owner Roman Abramovich.

On his X page, Borsen wrote, "Without seeing the decision/award of -10 points for Everton, I deem it harsh for a breach of FFP. However, it confirms that sanctions against City (if proven) and now against Chelsea (if charges are brought and upheld for undeclared payments) could potentially lead to expulsion."

The former consultant for the Citizens added, “One thing can be said for certain, given the scale of this sporting sanction, Chelsea's calculations (in my opinion), should they breach the PL P&S rule and simply absorb the penalty as operating costs, must be urgently reassessed.”

The January window might be intriguing. At best, they can no longer rely on convincing the Independent Commission to accept their Covid benefits and sanctions as exceptional adjustments [to the extent that was planned]."

Everton has dropped to 19th place in the Premier League standings due to the deduction of 10 points for breaching the Profit and Sustainability rules of the Premier League. In March, the club was referred to an independent commission for alleged violations related to the 2021/22 season, and hearings took place last month.

The Premier League insisted on a substantial points deduction to set a precedent after the club was accused of financial rule breaches in the 2021/22 season. The Toffees incurred staggering financial losses totaling nearly £372 million over a three-year period.
