Chelle Shrugs Off Previous AFCON Memories as Pressure Mounts

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle says he is “under pressure” to succeed with Nigeria but insists past disappointments will not distract his team as they prepare for their next game.

Speaking before the match, Chelle said the pressure has existed since he took charge in 2025, stressing it comes from within the squad. “Since I took this job I have been under pressure… Game after game we want to be ambitious,” he said.

The Malian added that Nigeria are calm and united ahead of Mozambique. “We want to win the next game… now we think about this game against Mozambique,” he added.

Chelle dismissed comparisons with AFCON 2021, saying “we are focused on what happens day after day.”

Nigeria topped their group then but lost 1–0 to Tunisia.
