Security forces opened fire during the match between Al Ittihad and Swehly.
Shocking events marred a Libyan league match on Thursday 14 May. Tensions erupted both inside and outside the stadium where the match was being played.
It is believed to have started with the discontent of Al Ittihad supporters, who felt they had been wronged by the refereeing because they believed three penalties could have been awarded to their team. Following their violent reaction, chaos ensued.
The match was halted ten minutes before the final whistle. Security forces then intervened and opened fire outside the stadium. The players were evacuated from the pitch.
