Chaos at Corinthians: Ultras Storm Club Headquarters and Corner Directors
Corinthians is facing a full-blown crisis. Following the ousting of president Augusto Melo over a corruption scandal, a group of the club’s most radical fans forced their way into the Parque São Jorge headquarters, threatening club executives and calling for sweeping changes.
Brazilian outlets reported that Melo was removed from office in recent days after serious allegations surfaced. Osmar Stábile, the club’s first vice president, has taken over on an interim basis. But poor on-field results—an early Copa Sudamericana exit and a modest eighth-place standing in the Brasileirao—have pushed tensions to the brink.
Leading the outrage was Metaleiro, a former top figure in the Gaviões Da Fiel supporters’ group. He gathered about 50 fans, broke into the building, and forced club officials to barricade themselves on the fifth floor. He later posted a video online calling for more fans to join in “taking back the club,” blasting the board for “caring more about power than about Corinthians.”
The military police eventually intervened and de-escalated the situation before it spiraled further out of control. On the pitch, the fallout continues as Ramón Díaz was sacked, with former Brazil national team coach Dorival Junior stepping in. Despite a promising 2024 campaign, Corinthians now finds itself in disarray—struggling for stability amid mounting pressure from all sides.
