Chaos at Colo Colo: Almirón Still in Charge Despite Board Vote to Sack Him
Colo Colo finds itself in a bizarre predicament as Jorge Almirón remains head coach even after the board of directors voted to remove him. As reported by RedGol, Blanco y Negro’s board approved his dismissal by a narrow 5-4 margin, but contractual issues have delayed the official termination.
Club president Aníbal Mosa confirmed the vote and blamed the delay on unresolved financial negotiations. Meanwhile, Almirón continues to lead training sessions and is preparing the squad for this weekend’s match against Unión Española.
With the situation growing increasingly tense at Estadio Monumental, names of possible successors have emerged. Former player Lucas Wilchez publicly endorsed José Néstor Pekerman, citing the veteran coach’s experience, leadership, and prior link to the club’s youth system in the early 1990s. Pekerman, now 75, has been without a team since leaving Venezuela’s national side.
Elsewhere, club legend Marcelo Barticciotto revealed that the board has already contacted Gustavo Quinteros, adding to the speculation surrounding Almirón’s imminent exit. Despite the clear decision to move on, the coach’s departure remains stalled—and the uncertainty continues.
