Cerro Porteño has kicked off its preseason in Ciudad del Este, but the atmosphere is far from calm. The team is preparing for a demanding second half of the year — with the league, Copa Paraguay, and Copa Libertadores on the horizon — yet no new signings have been confirmed and rumors of a squad overhaul continue to grow.

The current training squad includes 36 players, several of whom have already been informed they will not be part of the plans moving forward. These include Bruno Valdez, Francisco Da Costa, Derlis Rodríguez, Alan Soñora, Alan Núñez, and Daniel Rivas. Meanwhile, Sergio Araújo’s future with the club remains uncertain.

The Clausura kicks off on July 4, while the Libertadores Round of 16 match against Estudiantes de La Plata is scheduled for August 13. With little time and a packed fixture list, pressure is mounting on the club's leadership to reinforce the roster.

As reported by Versus, one possible addition is Fernando Cardozo. The forward was expected to return to Olimpia, the club that owns his rights, but a full squad in his position may divert him to Cerro. Negotiations with Newell’s — currently holding his loan — are ongoing.
