Pablo Ceppelini will miss the entire group stage of the 2025 Copa Libertadores after being handed a four-month suspension by CONMEBOL. The Alianza Lima midfielder was found guilty of violating Article 15.1 of the confederation's disciplinary code during the match against Boca Juniors in Buenos Aires. The decision, confirmed on Friday, was reported by ESPN.

The ruling stems from an incident in which Ceppelini allegedly acted in a manner considered discriminatory or offensive to human dignity. Article 15.1 outlines strict penalties for actions or language that target individuals or groups based on race, color, sex, language, religion, or origin. In such cases, the minimum punishment is a ten-match ban or four months out of competition.

As a result, Ceppelini is barred from all CONMEBOL-organized events during this period. Alianza Lima has already announced plans to appeal the decision, hoping to reduce or overturn the punishment. However, until that process concludes, the Uruguayan will be sidelined.

The suspension is a significant setback for the Peruvian side, which counts on Ceppelini’s creativity and experience in midfield. With key fixtures ahead, Alianza Lima will now have to adjust its tactical plans to compensate for the loss.
