The fate of Ednaldo Rodrigues as president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) now rests with the courts. According to Portal Leo Dias, former CBF executive Coronel Nunes failed to attend a key judicial hearing scheduled for Monday, intended to clarify whether his signature on an agreement securing Rodrigues’s presidency had been forged.

CBF’s legal director André dos Santos Mattos Almeida stated that Nunes's daughter informed them he was “not well” and had been taken to Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo for medical examinations. As a result, the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice canceled the hearing and confirmed that a decision would be made without Nunes’s testimony.

The contested agreement, signed in January and backed by the Supreme Federal Court, allowed Rodrigues to remain in power until 2026. However, a forensic report by handwriting expert Jacqueline Tirotti deemed the signature attributed to Nunes as forged, while a neurologist’s report confirmed cognitive impairment.

In an atmosphere already clouded by political scrutiny and internal controversy, the upcoming court decision could significantly impact the governance and credibility of Brazilian football’s top institution.
