Jorge Carrascal’s anticipated move to Flamengo has stalled, and the Colombian midfielder is back in Russia training with Dynamo Moscow. Although Flamengo had a verbal agreement with Carrascal and hoped to finalize the deal before the FIFA Club World Cup, the club felt Dynamo was using the global stage to drive up his price.

The Brazilian side offered €12 million in installments, while the Russian club demanded €15 million along with banking guarantees. As the deal dragged on, Carrascal skipped Dynamo’s early friendlies, frustrating the board. He eventually rejoined the squad and came off the bench in a 3–1 win over Partizan. The Russian league kicks off on July 20.

Flamengo’s football director, José Boto, avoided naming Carrascal directly: “I don’t talk about negotiations because it only creates disappointment. It could be Carrascal or another Carrascal,” he joked.

Tensions between the clubs may also trace back to the 2022 signing of Guillermo Varela. The Uruguayan right-back left Dynamo using FIFA’s wartime clause and later joined Flamengo permanently without a transfer fee. While Flamengo argues that the current administration wasn’t involved, the Russian club remains displeased.

For now, Carrascal's future is in limbo as both clubs dig in their heels.
