Chelsea’s somewhat surprising second place after 16 Premier League matchdays has sparked theories that the "Blues" could join the title race and challenge for the crown. However, Jamie Carragher is unconvinced, drawing parallels with another team once in a similar position.

Details: Carragher likened Chelsea to Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool of the 2013/2014 season, which came tantalizingly close to winning the title. The key difference, however, is that Liverpool at the time didn’t have the burden of European competitions, while Chelsea, even with a rotated squad, are still competing in the UEFA Conference League.

Quote: "I still look at them and don’t see a team that can win the title. Simply because when I look at the goalkeeper and the two central defenders. In the season when Liverpool came very close to the title under Rodgers, they came out of nowhere. Nobody expected it, but they didn’t have European football," Carragher said on Sky Sports.

Reminder: Chelsea’s head coach Enzo Maresca himself recently admitted that the team is not yet ready for a title challenge.
