Carragher believes Aston Villa should sell Durán

Aston Villa has been fending off offers for their forward Jhon Durán, reportedly rejecting around 40 bids last summer. However, Jamie Carragher feels that the Villans should seize the opportunity to cash in on the young striker.

Details: The Sky Sports pundit argues that if Villa were to sell Durán, they wouldn’t need to look for a top-quality replacement, as Ollie Watkins already fills that role under Unai Emery. Furthermore, Durán’s younger age means he could command a higher transfer fee.

Quote: “I just think sometimes you can have two players in the same position who are almost too good. One player needs to know they’re the main guy. For me, that player is Watkins.

I think Villa could get good money for Durán, but Watkins isn’t done yet; he’s got 3-4 years left at this level. Villa fans might say, ‘No, he’s a great young striker,’ but I feel that dynamic won’t work. They can’t play together—take the £60-70 million and reinvest it elsewhere in the team.”
