Tennis player Karolina Muchova won't be participating in the WTA Finals 2023, as officially announced by the organization.

She will be replaced by Maria Sakkari, the first alternate from Greece. Muchova decided to withdraw from the WTA Year-End Championships in Cancun due to a right wrist injury. Her injury prompted the introduction of Maria Sakkari as her replacement. Muchova had qualified for the year-end tournament after reaching the finals at Cincinnati and the semifinals at the US Open. Unfortunately, she lost both of these matches to American player Coco Gauff.

"Together with the team and the doctors, we did everything possible to solve this problem. Unfortunately, the time needed for recovery is longer than we hoped, so I had to make this unpleasant decision," Mukhova said.

Muchova reached her first WTA final at the WTA Prague Open in 2019, where she faced defeat against Swiss player Jil Teichmann. This success marked her entrance into the top 100 of the WTA world rankings. In June, she defeated Anett Kontaveit in the first round of the French Open but exited the tournament after a loss to Irina-Camelia Begu in the second round.

At Wimbledon in 2019, Muchova reached the quarterfinals, which was her best performance in a Grand Slam tournament at the time. She secured her first WTA title at the Korea Open in 2019.
