Carlos Vela Set for First-Ever Chance in Liga MX Carlos Vela Set for First-Ever Chance in Liga MX

Carlos Vela may finally make his long-awaited Liga MX debut, and it could happen with Pachuca in the 2025 Apertura tournament. The Mexican forward, currently a free agent after leaving LAFC, is in advanced talks with the Tuzos, who want to sign him not only for the FIFA Club World Cup but also for the remainder of the domestic season.

According to reports, Pachuca's management has already contacted Vela and offered him a contract until the end of 2025. While the original idea was to bring him in just for the Club World Cup, the club now wants him to contribute in the Liga MX as well. This would mark the first time Vela plays professionally in Mexico, despite having started his youth career at Chivas.

Vela, 36, has not played professionally since December 2023. He made his name in Europe and the United States, most notably at LAFC, where he played 189 matches, scored 93 goals, and delivered 54 assists. He won multiple domestic titles, including the MLS Cup, but never captured the CONCACAF Champions League.

Bringing in a talent like Vela would be a massive coup for Pachuca, who are determined to strengthen their squad depth ahead of a demanding calendar. If the deal is finalized, Vela could both debut and retire in his homeland, closing a prestigious career with one final chapter in Liga MX.
