Carlos Salcedo Ruled Out of 2025 Club World Cup as Monterrey Confirm First Major Absence
Monterrey will head into the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup without one of their veteran defenders. Mexican international Carlos Salcedo has been officially ruled out due to injury, becoming the team’s first confirmed absentee for the tournament. The 31-year-old suffered a torn ACL in his right knee just one day after signing a two-year deal with the club on January 18.
Salcedo has been undergoing rehabilitation ever since, but according to his own statements on social media, he still needs at least three more months before returning to action. As a result, he will miss Monterrey’s opening match on June 17 against Inter Milan at the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles.
The setback also sidelines him for the Leagues Cup and the early stages of the Apertura 2025. While the club still counts on experienced center-back Sergio Ramos, Salcedo’s absence will be a significant loss for Monterrey’s defensive depth as they prepare for one of the most demanding international tournaments of the year.
