Carlos Queiroz’s record as manager of the Black Stars
The 73-year-old tactician’s spell at the helm of Ghana’s coaching staff came to an end on Thursday 1 October.
Carlos Queiroz left his post by mutual agreement with the Ghana Football Association, following a chaotic start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Portuguese manager had officially made his debut on the Black Stars’ bench in June 2026, in a friendly against Wales, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
He subsequently led Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Ghanaians’ campaign came to an end in the round of 32. His contract had expired following the tournament held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, but the GFA had decided to renew it.
This confidence ultimately proved unsustainable in the face of poor results in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which precipitated his departure. The Black Stars lost 2–0 to Côte d’Ivoire and 4–2 to The Gambia.
In seven international matches under Carlos Queiroz, Ghana recorded just one win, two draws and four defeats. The Black Stars scored five goals and conceded ten.
