Cardoso Urges Sundowns to Stay United Amid Grueling Schedule
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has stressed the importance of unity as his team navigates a demanding schedule, competing in the Betway Premiership, CAF Champions League, and Nedbank Cup.
Balancing Success and Fatigue
Sundowns currently dominate the league standings with a 16-point lead and have reached the quarter-finals of both the Champions League and Nedbank Cup, where they will face Esperance and Sekhukhune United, respectively.
Cardoso admits that his team suffers psychologically and physically despite their great position. Expectations are still high despite the team's strong lineup and financial support, but the coach maintains that team spirit is crucial.
“Football performance is not about 11 players but a group thinking the same thing, at the same time, under good physical conditions,” Cardoso said. “It’s about uniting hearts and building brotherhood.”
Preparing for Sekhukhune Clash
Sundowns will host Sekhukhune United in the Nedbank Cup at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium tonight (8pm kick-off). Sekhukhune enter the match without a head coach after parting ways with Lehlohonolo Seema following back-to-back league defeats.
While Cardoso sympathized with Seema’s dismissal, he emphasized that Sundowns must stay focused. “Let’s focus on what we can control. Our job is to create a balanced team and deal with the risks of the game,” he added.
With the final stretch of the season approaching, Cardoso urged his players to give their all. “The most important thing now is to be united and strong. Give your soul for your teammate to thrive.”
