"Cannot describe the feeling". Simona Halep have won first match after doping disqualification
Former world No. 1 Simona Halep has won her first match after doping scandal.
The Romanian tennis star successfully started at the WTA 125 tournament in Hong Kong. In the first round, she defeated Australia's Arina Rodionova 6:2, 4:6, 6:4.
The match lasted just over two hours, during which Halep hit six aces, committed four double faults, and converted six out of 11 break points.
“Words cannot describe the feeling of being out there on court competing - and winning my first match after such a long period - in the sport I love. Thank you for all your support and your love, it means the world to me”, - wrote Halep after the victory.
Halep has played two matches since her doping suspension. She had not competed since May due to a knee injury.
After returning to tennis, Halep played at the Miami Open, where she lost in three sets to Paula Badosa. She was unable to compete in tournaments in Oeiras and Madrid, where she had been given wild cards, due to health issues.
Before today, Halep's last match win was back in August 2022.
