A fresh scandal has erupted at Camp Nou, centering on the stadium’s ongoing renovation project.

Details: According to Marca, a labor inspection uncovered 79 Turkish workers operating at the site without the necessary permits. The investigation, carried out by the Treball authority, revealed that employees hired by the subcontractor Extreme Works had been working in Barcelona for months without proper legal documentation.

The company Extreme Works, responsible for providing welders, electricians, and technical specialists, has been hit with a €1.09 million fine. Following the launch of the investigation, the firm dismissed all affected workers and sent them back to Turkey—although some never returned. This is far from the first violation involving foreign laborers at the stadium’s renovation: total sanctions have already reached €3 million, with over 200 cases now under review.

The workers themselves claim they were misled. According to their statements, they were promised legal employment and proper paperwork, but upon arrival in Spain, found themselves without the required permits or guarantees. Many turned to the trade union in an effort to resolve the situation, which was quickly followed by their dismissals.

Notably, Barcelona has already played its first match at Camp Nou after the renovation, with the Catalan side cruising to a 4-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao. The next fixture at this iconic stadium is set for November 29 against Alavés, with kickoff scheduled for 16:15 Central European Time.

Reminder: Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has promised fans that they will see a different Barcelona in the upcoming matches.
