After losing three finals, Cameroon will contest another Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final in a bid to win the first continental title in its history.

Cameroon have had a fine run at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The Indomitable Lionesses have defied the odds to reach the final of the tournament, which is being held in Morocco.

The Cameroonian side knocked out the defending champions, Nigeria, in the quarter-finals before seeing off the host nation, Morocco, to reach the final. However, this WAFCON 2026 final marks Cameroon’s fourth appearance in the competition’s final.

Nevertheless, the Indomitable Lionesses’ previous appearances in the final have all ended in defeats against Nigeria. In 2004, the Indomitable Lionesses lost 5–0 to the Super Falcons. In 2014, Cameroon were once again beaten by Nigeria, 2–0. When they hosted the competition in 2016, Cameroon lost yet again to Nigeria in the final, 1–0.

Ten years after their last final, the Indomitable Lionesses are back at the top of the competition. But unlike in the three previous finals, they will not be facing Nigeria this time. Cameroon will take on Malawi in the final of the 2026 African Women’s Nations Cup on Sunday 16 August.
