Cameroon’s Eyong Dares Nigeria Ahead of World Cup Playoffs
Cameroon’s rising star Etta Eyong has sent a strong message to the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff campaign in Rabat, Morocco.
The Indomitable Lions are in a tough group with Nigeria, DR Congo, and Gabon, with only one team set to advance to the intercontinental playoffs for a ticket to the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Cameroon will take on DR Congo in one semifinal, while Nigeria face Gabon in the other on Thursday evening.
Eyong, who plays for Villarreal, believes Cameroon have nothing to fear from their West African rivals.
He told Sporty TV:
For me the most dangerous, Nigeria was before but I am no more afraid... With the confidence of the team, we can take the three teams.
The 22-year-old added, “Even though we have to play three matches against them to qualify, we are going to win the three games... I think we have the capacity and ability to win those games that are coming.”
Eyong has been in fine form this season, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 12 league appearances. If both sides win their semifinals, Nigeria and Cameroon will clash in a decisive final to determine who advances to the next stage of the World Cup qualifiers.
