Cameroon: Marc Brys, a possible departure before the 2025 AFCON?
Rumors are circulating about a possible departure of Marc Brys from the Cameroonian national team. With the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) approaching, Samuel Eto'o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), is reportedly considering taking action before the tournament scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Following Cameroon's defeat on November 13, 2025, this elimination from the 2026 World Cup playoffs could have direct consequences on Brys's position. Tensions between the coach and Eto'o have been reported, further complicating the situation.
According to sources within the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fécafoot), Eto'o has already asked the National Technical Directorate to draw up a list of potential replacements to lead the Indomitable Lions at the next continental tournament. This change could be implemented if the federation's executive committee supports the initiative.
However, a major obstacle stands in the way of this decision. First, the suspension of Fécafoot's elective General Assembly by the Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi. The minister appears to disagree with Eto'o's choices.
There is also the issue of coaches' salaries, which falls under the Ministry of Sports, and Kombi has recently expressed his opposition to the federation's management.
This situation could delay any decision regarding Marc Brys's future as head coach of the Indomitable Lions.
