Cameroon - Fecafoot: Minister of Sports Suspends November 29 Election sportnewsafrica

Cameroonian football is going through a crisis that is hindering the team's progress. As the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) Elective General Assembly approaches, the Minister of Sports, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, sent a particularly firm letter to the Minister of Territorial Administration.

In his message, he demands the outright suspension of the electoral process, which he considers tainted by serious irregularities and potentially dangerous for national cohesion.

The Minister believes that the current conduct of the election,

“He respects neither the laws of the country nor the regulations of FIFA and CAF.”

The reasons for the minister’s decision are well-known. They stem from the numerous complaints generated by the suspension of influential clubs in favor of entities deemed fictitious. There are also controversial exclusions and the creation by certain individuals of a parallel structure supposedly representing the voices excluded from the federal system.

For the first time, only one candidate is running in this election. And this candidate, Samuel Eto’o, would not have been eligible without a prior revision of the FECAFOOT statutes, a revision that amended the provisions preventing him from running due to his conviction in Spain for social security abuses.

However, Samuel Eto’o, who is reportedly in a difficult position, does not seem ready to withdraw.
