Kambosos and Lomachenko will engage in a contest for the IBF title
George Kambosos and Vasyl Lomachenko will engage in a bout for the world championship in the lightweight division according to the IBF, as announced by the promoter Bob Arum.
According to sources, the preliminary date for the showdown between the Ukrainian and Australian boxers is April 13, but it has not been officially confirmed yet. The bout itself is scheduled to take place in Australia. In this face-to-face encounter, Lomachenko and Kambosos will determine the next IBF world champion in the lightweight division.
This title became vacant after champion Devin Haney relinquished the championship belts upon moving up to the super lightweight division.
This will be Lomachenko's first bout since May 2023. At that time, the Ukrainian suffered a decision loss to Devin Haney, who successfully defended the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF championship belts. Conversely, George Kambosos last entered the ring in the summer, securing a victory over Maxi Hughes.
This event was preceded by two fights with Haney, in which the Australian lost the world championship title in the lightweight division in 2022.
