Nigerian internationals Calvin Bassey and Samuel Chukwueze were at their brilliant best on Saturday night, playing key roles as Fulham secured a dramatic 3–2 victory over Burnley in an entertaining Premier League encounter.

Fulham manager Marco Silva handed starting roles to Calvin Bassey, Samuel Chukwueze, and Alex Iwobi—all of whom have been named in Eric Chelle’s final Super Eagles squad for the upcoming AFCON.

The Cottagers wasted no time asserting their dominance. Just nine minutes into the contest, Emile Smith Rowe opened the scoring after connecting superbly with a perfectly weighted delivery from Harry Wilson. Burnley, however, responded with urgency and intensity. Their pressure paid off in the 21st minute when Lesley Ugochukwu fired home to restore parity and bring the home crowd back into the game.

Fulham regained the lead in the 31st minute, and it was Nigerian defender Calvin Bassey who rose to the occasion. The centre-back found the back of the net from another Harry Wilson assist, putting the visitors ahead once again and capping an impressive first-half display.

Despite Burnley’s late push, Fulham held firm. Substitute Oliver Sonne pulled one back late on for the hosts, but it proved only a consolation as Fulham walked away with all three points following a hard-fought 3–2 win.

With this victory behind them, Bassey, Chukwueze, and Iwobi are now expected to link up with the Super Eagles squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco
