CAF Unveils “Assad” as Official Mascot for AFCON 2025 in Morocco CAF Unveils “Assad” as Official Mascot for AFCON 2025 in Morocco

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially unveiled “Assad” as the mascot for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will take place in Morocco from December 21 to January 18.

Assad, whose name means “lion” in Arabic, symbolizes strength, pride, and cultural authenticity—qualities CAF says reflect both Moroccan tradition and the spirit of African football. The mascot is depicted as a cheerful young lion wearing a red shirt adorned with the CAF emblem while holding the tournament’s official match ball.

In its announcement, CAF explained that Assad draws inspiration from the Atlas Lion, one of Morocco’s most iconic national symbols. This connection highlights a unifying figure celebrated not only within Morocco but across the African continent.

As the tournament’s official ambassador, Assad is designed to embody the joy, energy, and passion that define Africa’s biggest football competition, helping to build excitement among fans as AFCON 2025 approaches.
