CAF Suspends Luca Zidane With Two-Match Ban After Post-Match Incident Against Nigeria
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed a two-match suspension for Luca Zidane following his role in a heated post-match incident after Algeria’s quarter-final loss to Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Nigeria sealed a 2–0 victory to progress to the semi-finals, but the encounter ended in controversy as tensions boiled over at the final whistle. Zidane, who is Algeria’s goalkeeper and the son of football legend Zinedine Zidane, was involved in an altercation in which he shoved Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika.
After reviewing reports and video evidence, CAF ruled that Zidane’s conduct breached disciplinary regulations. The governing body announced that the suspension will be served during Algeria’s 2027 AFCON qualifying matches
