CAF rejects Egypt’s request to increase the number of clubs in the Champions League

The Egyptian Football Association wanted the continent’s 12 highest-ranked associations to each be allocated three places in the competition.

The Confederation of African Football has said no to Egypt. According to journalist Micky Jr, the Egyptian Football Association has officially received the response from African football’s governing body, which has decided to maintain the current quota of clubs in the Champions League.

The EFA had submitted a reform proposal to grant three Champions League places to the 12 highest-ranked member associations. This would have allowed a third Egyptian club to take part in the Champions League from the 2026–2027 season onwards.

However, CAF did not approve this proposal.
