African football is set to undergo a change.
The Confederation of African Football is considering increasing the number of teams in the final phase of the Africa Cup of Nations. This was one of the announcements made by CAF President Patrice Motsepe following the Executive Committee meeting held on Friday 13 February in Dar es Salaam.
The proposed reform is expected to take effect in 2032, when the continental competition will be held every four years. Instead of 24 teams, 28 will qualify for the final phase of the tournament.
The aim of this reform, which seeks to increase the number of participating nations, is to offer more opportunities to national teams on the continental stage.
