The Confederation of African Football has sanctioned Algeria following incidents during their AFCON quarterfinal clash with Nigeria on January 10, 2026. CAF’s Disciplinary Committee suspended goalkeeper Luca Zidane for two matches, to be served during the 2027 AFCON qualifiers. Defender Rafik Belghali received a four-match ban, with two games suspended. The Algerian Football Federation was fined $5,000 after players picked up five yellow cards.

CAF also imposed a $25,000 fine for inappropriate conduct after the match. Supporter misconduct attracted further penalties, including fines for smoke bombs, projectiles, security breaches and offensive gestures towards officials. FAF confirmed it will appeal in accordance with regulations.
