Amid swirling speculation over a potential expansion of CAF's interclub competitions, a source within the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has firmly denied any imminent changes to the current formats of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

In a statement to FilGoal, the CAF source clarified:

"The idea of increasing the number of clubs in African competitions was indeed discussed last March, but it was only an informal suggestion. The executive committee has not yet reviewed it."

The source added that the proposal is not currently on the agenda of any upcoming CAF Executive Committee meetings and emphasized that there are no signs of an imminent change for next season.

Current Format Recap (2024–25 Season):

  • CAF Champions League: 59 clubs
  • CAF Confederation Cup: 50 clubs

2024–25 Finals Set:

  • CAF Champions League Final:
    • Pyramids FC (Egypt) vs Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa)
  • CAF Confederation Cup Final:
    • RS Berkane (Morocco) vs Simba SC (Tanzania)

Although there is ongoing discussion about the possibility of growing Africa's premier events, CAF has made it clear that there are now no plans to expand.
