CAF Confirms TotalEnergies CHAN 2024 Final Draw Procedure
The process for the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 Final Draw, which is set for Wednesday, January 15 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya, has been formally laid out by the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF).
19 countries will compete in the draw, including the defending champions Senegal and co-hosts Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Before the event, which is scheduled for August 2025, two more teams will be chosen through continuous qualifying.
The event will be broadcast live on CAF’s YouTube channel and CAF TV at 20:00 local time (17:00 GMT / 19:00 Cairo).
Qualified Teams
CECAFA: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Sudan
WAFU A: Guinea, Senegal, Mauritania
WAFU B: Niger, Burkina Faso, Nigeria
UNIFFAC: Central African Republic, Congo, DR Congo
COSAFA: Angola, Madagascar, Zambia
UNAF: Morocco
Seeding and Ranking
The three co-hosts (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda) will lead Groups A, B, and C as seeded teams in positions A1, B1, and C1, respectively. Defending champions Senegal will top Group D in position D1.
The remaining teams are distributed across three pots based on their performances in the last three CHAN tournaments.
Pot A: Morocco, Niger, Congo, Madagascar
Pot B: Mauritania, Guinea, Sudan, Angola
Pot C: DR Congo, Zambia, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Central African Republic, Qualifier 1, Qualifier 2
Draw Procedures
Pot A: Teams drawn will fill position 2 in each group (A2, B2, C2, D2).
Pot B: Teams drawn will fill position 3 in each group (A3, B3, C3, D3).
Pot C: Teams drawn will fill positions 4 and 5 in each group (A4-A5, B4-B5, C4-C5, D4).
The draw will determine the group stage matchups for the tournament, which celebrates African football talent by featuring only home-based players.
