The CAF Champions League group stage has begun for MC Alger, and unfortunately, the Algerian club had a disappointing start.

MC Alger lost 2-1 to Al-Hilal Omdurman on Friday, November 21, in Kigali. Despite facing a Sudanese side reduced to ten men late in the game after Salaheldin Alhassan was sent off for a second yellow card, the Algerians lacked scoring opportunities. Al-Hilal opened the scoring just before halftime with a well-executed move finished by Abdelrazig Omer.

MCA equalized in the 53rd minute thanks to an own goal by Mustafa Karshom, under constant pressure from Rulani Mokwena's players. But the Algerian champions conceded again in the 75th minute when substitute Mohammed Abdel-Rahman scored just seconds after coming on.

In the final minutes, MC Alger couldn't find the resources to equalize. This defeat marks a first for Mokwena since his arrival during the off-season, following his time at Wydad Casablanca.

According to the schedule, Sundowns will host Lupopo this Saturday, November 22nd, and a special occasion awaits Mokwena on November 28th, when the South African coach will face his former club in Algiers, with the imperative of securing MCA's first points.
