CAF Champions League: draw for preliminary rounds announced

The Confederation of African Football kicked off the new season of the competition by holding the draw for the preliminary rounds on Thursday 6 August at its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.

Following the ceremony, the participating clubs now know their opponents. The continent’s three highest-ranked clubs have been given a bye in the first preliminary round. These are Mamelodi Sundowns, ES Tunis and RS Berkane. These three teams will enter the competition directly at the second preliminary round.

The other teams, however, will have to go through the first round, which will be played over two legs. The winners of these ties will join the three exempted clubs in the second round.
