Victor Osimhen will be absent from this year’s CAF Awards in Rabat, Morocco, scheduled for Wednesday, as he returns to Galatasaray for a crucial MRI scan on the hamstring injury he sustained while on international duty with Nigeria.
The Nigerian striker, who is one of the top finalists for the prestigious African Player of the Year award, had been expected to attend tonight’s ceremony. However, his injury has forced a change of plans, ruling him out of the event entirely.
According to multiple reports, the 26-year-old traveled back to Istanbul earlier today for the scheduled MRI scan after picking up the hamstring issue during Nigeria’s clash against the Leopards of Congo on Sunday. The forward has continued to feel discomfort since the match.
Galatasaray’s medical team has requested immediate imaging to determine the severity of the injury. The results will help the club assess how long Osimhen may be sidelined as they prepare for key upcoming fixtures.
Osimhen’s absence is a major talking point ahead of the ceremony, as he had been widely regarded as one of the favourites for the African Player of the Year crown.
