Busted for cannabis! Hockey player Dane Fox faces possible suspension after failed doping test
Top scorer of German second-division hockey club Dresdner Eislöwen, Dane Fox, could face a suspension after testing positive for a banned substance, reports Bild.
While he has not yet been officially sanctioned, the club has taken precautions and announced that Fox will not play in this weekend’s matches.
His sample reportedly tested positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive compound found in cannabis. Although cannabis is legalized in Germany, THC remains on the list of banned substances due to its effects on risk-taking behavior, which could increase the chances of injury during games.
However, Fox might have a chance to avoid punishment, as THC is only prohibited during competitions, not in training. If he can prove that the substance entered his system on non-game days, WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) may rule in his favor.
Fox's potential absence could be a major blow for Dresden, especially in the playoffs, as he has been the team's standout performer with 13 goals and 31 assists this season.
