Trailing 2-0 to Nuremberg on Wednesday 28 October in the DFB-Pokal, Leverkusen were able to rely on their Burkinabe defender to get back into the game before going on to win comfortably by a score of 5-2.

Edmond Tapsoba first pulled one back in the 41st minute, before scoring a brace in the 49th minute to level the score at 2–2. These two decisive goals revived his side’s fortunes in a match that had started poorly.

Buoyed by this comeback, Bayer Leverkusen then took control of the match to eventually win 5–2 and continue their run in the competition. This performance marks a turning point for Tapsoba, who scored his first two goals of the season for Leverkusen. The 27-year-old defender has thus confirmed his ability to make an impact in attack, in addition to his role in defence.

Last season, the Burkina Faso international had already demonstrated his effectiveness in the Bundesliga, with five goals and three assists. Against Nuremberg, he once again proved that he can be decisive at crucial moments.
