Burkina Faso unveils the Ligue de la Souveraineté
This new competition aims to distribute sporting opportunities more evenly across the country and to identify young talent in all regions.
Burkina Faso is set to take a new step forward in the organisation of its sport with the launch of the Sovereignty League. On Monday 12 October, the President of Burkina Faso, Ibrahim Traoré, met with regional governors and sports officials to provide guidance on the implementation of this new competition.
Among the key measures announced is the payment of salaries to selected athletes. Each selected athlete is expected to receive a minimum of 200,000 CFA francs per month, in addition to related benefits.
Regional governors will play a central role in organising the League. They will be responsible for coordinating the recruitment of coaches and the organisation of regional championships. These competitions will serve to identify and select young talent.
The funding and operation of the League at regional level will also rely on contributions from businesses, which are being called upon to support the project. A specific mechanism will be put in place to ensure media coverage of the competition and give it greater visibility.
