Bukayo Saka Expresses Pride in His Nigerian Heritage: “I Am Very Proud of It”
Arsenal and England winger Bukayo Saka has opened up about his strong bond with his Nigerian roots, emphasizing how much his heritage means to him. He described this connection simply and powerfully, saying he is “very proud of my heritage.”
In a recent interview with the BBC, Saka highlighted the meaning behind his identity by sharing his full name and speaking about its significance:
“My name is Bukayo Moses Ayoyinka Temidayo Saka. I am very proud of it (my Nigerian roots).
He went on to explain that “both my parents grew up in Nigeria,” and that many of the values they learned there were passed down to him, shaping his character, discipline, and outlook on life.
“Both my parents grew up in Nigeria, so many of their values have been instilled in me.”
Saka’s connection to Nigeria has also been recognized publicly. In June 2023, he was hosted by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the State House in Marina, Lagos, in celebration of both his achievements and his heritage.
